Many have recently seen the press release here announcing the postponement of the 2022 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships planned for February 3-7, in Tempe, Arizona. This event would have been the first USA Racquetball National Championships of 2022, one that has been happily hosted at Arizona State University for over a decade.

As noted in the press release, the postponement was due to heightened COVID-19 restrictions instituted by Arizona State University on January 5, 2022. USA Racquetball’s request for an exemption to these restrictions was not granted.

With masks mandated in all areas of the Fitness Complex, including on the courts during competition, the chances became remote that we could provide the National Doubles experience that everyone looks forward to each year. It became clear that moving forward to host a national championships, and asking our attending community to invest the expense of hotels, flights, and time off of work for an event they would not fully enjoy, would not be fair to anyone.

The Sun Devil Fitness Complex is a fantastic venue and Tempe Tourism is a great event sponsor and partner. There are no plans to move the event outside of Tempe in a future year, and we look forward to being back there as soon as possible.

We will get through these challenges together and tackle issues as they arise. There are lots of national events to get excited about this season, and we continue to look optimistically to the future.
