2022 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships Postponed
by USA Racquetball
Due to unforeseen changes to COVID-19 restrictions at Arizona State University, the 2022 USA Racquetball National Doubles Championships must be postponed. This event was to be held February 2-6, 2022, at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex in Tempe, Arizona.
As of Wednesday, January 5th, COVID-19 restrictions on campus, including in all university buildings, were escalated to combat accelerating cases in the area. These restrictions include mask mandates in all university buildings, and Arizona State University now requires masks to be worn everywhere in the complex, including on the courts during play.
USA Racquetball applied for an exemption to the mandate and was notified today that our request has been denied. These restrictions make it impossible to host this event at this time. Additional information and the link to these university changes can be found HERE.
The National Doubles Championships have been hosted in Tempe at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex for over a decade. They, along with Tempe Tourism, are great partners of our sport and of this event. Indeed, they are a significant reason this event keeps returning to this location. There are no plans to remove this standing event from the Tempe area, and we look forward to hosting more championships at their incredible facilities.
Many questions come to mind when planning for the postponement. Here are some quick answers that might help:
2022 Entries and Registration Fees
The registration link has been deactivated on the website to prevent further entries. USA Racquetball will be generating refunds as soon as possible. All fees will be refunded without processing penalties.
Hotel Room Reservations
For those attendees who have taken advantage of our negotiated rates and our booking portal, all room reservations will be cancelled and fees refunded if any were assessed. GroupHousing, our national hotel partner, will be processing these over the two weeks. There is no need to contact them or USAR unless you have other questions. These will be taken care of for you.
Team Qualifying Info
There are several more conversations to be had before a solid plan for Team Qualifying can be published. Once the various committees have discussed options, Team Qualifying information will be published on USA Racquetball’s website and on social media. We expect to have a plan in place by the end of January.
USA Racquetball deeply appreciates the teamwork and partnership afforded by Tempe Tourism and so many other organizations and businesses in the Tempe area that participate in our planning each year.
