USA Racquetball Recognizes Katara Borrero as Real Racquetball Champion for July 2021
by Maurice Miller
USA Racquetball is proud to name Katara Borrero of Snellville, Georgia, as this month’s Real Racquetball Champion.
In the nomination for Katara’s well-deserved recognition, many reasons were cited. Very significantly, she has organized and run an annual ladies’ racquetball tournament 11 times over the past decade. This tournament, initially entitled Hope for a Cure Breast Cancer Tournament, focused on breast cancer awareness. It has evolved to concentrate its efforts toward battling all cancers and has become the Hope for a Cure Cancer Tournament. It offers only women’s divisions, and each year the tournament maxes out in entries.
So, at Katara’s tournament, women are the main (only!) focus. She sets up massages, a nail station, gift bags, raffles, t-shirts and many other things along with offering world-class hospitality. An event of this magnitude could not be accomplished without (male) volunteers! One of the ways Katara thanks them is by hosting a Fun Mixed Doubles gathering the night before the main event.
For as much as Katara does, she doesn’t expect to be recognized for her achievements -- she does it from her heart. All year ‘round, she plans, organizes, runs, and coordinates this event with no personal financial gain.
Tackling life’s challenges? No problem for Katara! She is a full-time mom with a full-time career. She also volunteers in other organizations while pursuing another degree. Katara has dealt with two Achilles injuries during her racquetball journey. The word “unstoppable” comes to mind...
Congratulations to Real Racquetball Champion Katara Borrero. She has our sincere gratitude for all she does for our sport and for our racquetball family!
