How Can I Help?

There are many times I’ve asked myself questions like:

“How can I help racquetball?”

“How can I make my sport a little more well known?”

“What small effort can I do to help players get together for one big gathering?”

If you are interested and have about 15 minutes, you can really make a difference in one aspect of our sport. The National Senior Games Association is a multi-sport organization devoted to providing competition for 50+-year-old athletes. Every two years, in different cities around the country, they host about 15,000 athletes who play 30+ sports during a two-week timeframe. You may not have heard of them, since they are very separate from USA Racquetball. We are working on that gap, but for now, the loyal racquetball players in that group need our help.

The next NSGA event is scheduled for 2027 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the organizing committee is considering dropping racquetball from the list of available sports. In Des Moines this last month, almost 200 players signed up for racquetball, ages 50 to 90. We need to make sure that racquetball is included for Tulsa, and a short email from YOU could make all the difference.

Please draft a short email to jmountain@nsga.com to let Jason know that we all believe it is important to have racquetball as a choice of sports in Tulsa in 2027. That’s it! That can seriously help racquetball grow and be more visible to the adult population of the USA and beyond. The NSGA does its own publicity and outreach, with some help from the tournament director, local players, and USA Racquetball.  There are millions of players out there who are not in our database, and this has been a strong way to find some of them. Many end up playing in more tournaments, joining USA Racquetball, and creating long-lasting friendships. Help make it happen.

Last note: If you want to try a NSGA-affiliated event before 2027, look into the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah, in October. You will be glad you did. Kevin Boerup runs the tournament and can answer all of your questions. Just a few hours from Las Vegas, Nevada, the red rocks of St. George will have you hooked! September 1 is the entry deadline! https://www.r2sports.com/website/event-website.asp?TID=48217
