A Glimpse at the National Senior Games

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was the site of the 2023 Senior Games Presented by Humana, July 7-18, and Racquetball was one of the 24 sports that were offered.

There were 130 racquetball players participating (30 women/100 men). I participated in this tournament for the first time in Men’s 65+ Singles and Doubles.

The format was round robin pool play that seeded players into an Olympic format: Gold, Blue, Red, and White brackets meaning you kept playing even if you lost, descending in brackets, until you reached your competition skill level. This is the format USA Racquetball uses for the High School, Collegiate, and Junior Championships.

I met a great deal of players who were new to me, and many have never played a USA Racquetball event. The atmosphere was friendly but still competitive, much like the National Masters and World Seniors.
